Today we are releasing a large content update to Murder Mystery! Here is the TLDR:
- 3 Descents Into Madness (new progression system!)

► The Descent Into Madness
Each core gamemode (Classic/Double Up!, Infection, and Assassins) is getting a Descent Into Madness with this update. What is a "Descent Into Madness"? Put simply, they are a series of branching objectives made to teach you the in's and out's of each mode. Along the way you will earn lots of Tokens and even some exclusive cosmetics. By the end of each Descent, you should feel fairly comfortable in that mode!
► Villa Revamp
Villa is the first map receiving a revamp with this update. We held a poll several months back asking which map the community wanted revamped most, and Villa ended up winning. Common complaints included the old map feeling too cramped and the Gods system feeling too similar to Kali in Ancient Tomb. We have opened up the map a sizeable amount and have revamped the Gods with tiered rewards instead of weighted/randomized rewards.
► Archives Top Floor Revamp
While we originally intended to only revamp one map, Archives Top Floor also received a significant portion of the votes, so we decided to revamp it as well! The old map was too large and it was too easy to "loop" the Murderer. With this revamp, we have cut down on both the size of the map and areas in which you can "loop" the Murderer. We have also introduced a new wall-drop mechanic: pay a small fee to close off a room with Iron Bars for a short while! We also heard some faint squeaks while walking through, but we were unable to make any sense of what that could have been.
► Gravestones & Emblems
This update is introducing 2 new cosmetic types: Gravestones & Emblems!
➥ Gravestones
Floral Gravestone
Dying will now put a Gravestone in your place, with your player head poking out of the ground so that you can be easily identified. There are 8 different Gravestones we are adding in this update, most of them can be earned at various points in the Descents, while the rest can be simply purchased with Tokens.
➥ Emblems
Emblems are a prestigious cosmetic for more dedicated Murder Mystery players. Emblems display beside your name in chat, and they come in two parts: the icon and the color. Icons can be earned by completing significant challenges, such as completing every challenge achievement or having 30,000 wins across all modes. Colors also have requirements, but they require large amounts of Tokens to purchase. Emblems are toggled off by default for those who wish to maintain a more casual experience between players, with the toggle in the new Game Settings menu. Emblems are always visible in lobbies, regardless of your settings.
► Knife Prestiging
That's one prestigious shovel!
Give your Knife Skin an enchanted look by prestiging it! Knife Skins cost 500 XP to prestige, which can be earned through getting kills and wins with that skin equipped. You can toggle between having it enabled/disabled in the shop menu as well.

- 1 XP - Kill as the Murderer
- 3 XP - Kill as the Alpha
- 1 XP - Kill in Assassins
Wins
- 14 XP - Win as the Murderer
- 6 XP - Win as the Alpha
- 2 XP - Win in Assassins
► Other
➥ Assassin's Happy Hour
Every Friday from 3pm to 7pm EDT, kills in Assassins give x2 Tokens! The timing and frequency of this event is subject to change, so if you have any feedback please leave it below.
➥ Tips
Similar to other games on the network (such as TNT Games), we have added a simple Tips system to each of the Murder Mystery modes. These tips cover both basic information and more obscure mechanics, and can be disabled any time using /toggletips
or by going to the new Game Settings menu.
➥ Pre-game Lobby Improvements
The pre-game lobbies of most maps have been revamped, they now allow you to parkour out of them in order to access the full map, similar to how Cattleridge Farm's pre-game lobby currently works! You are now also able to use Gestures and view the Map while in the pre-game.
➥ Revamped Shop Menu
The shop menu has now been revamped and has 3 sections: The Descent Into Madness, My Cosmetics, and Game Settings. Both the Heartbeat toggle and the new Emblems toggle can be found in Game Settings, along with a toggle for tips.
► QoL Changes
There were a bunch of smaller yet still notable improvements we made with this update. Some of these are suggestions from the community while others are to improve game accessibility.
- Red particles will appear around Knives when held in hand to help distinguish them from map items
- Glass panes now visibly "crack" when you throw Knives through them
- Significantly increased the amount of Tokens earned by all Quests
- Added client-side sound effects for when you are chosen as the Murderer/Detective/Alpha
- This means other players will not hear them, only you
- Added Kills as Hero to the Classic/Double Up! statistics menu
- In Double Up!, you will increment this stat twice if you kill both Murderers
- Added Survivor and Alpha wins to the Infection statistics menu
- Note that Alpha wins were not previously tracked
- Made text consistency improvements to some Quests and many Achievements
